Casa Lennon Hits the National Zoo

Alexnader Under Umbrella

We finally did a “DC thing” since moving to the DC area. It only took 5 months, but we made our first trip to the National Zoo as DC locals. We’ve been busy with other things. It’s actually only the second trip into the city since we moved here in March.

We met up some friends in the city after deciding that the weather would hold off enough for us to do an outdoor activity as planned. The weather turned out to be just fine, with an occasional light sprinkle. As expected, the kids absolutely loved all the animals. They got a special treat when they got to watch the orangutans go across the ropes directly overhead. Michele and Dave have been a bunch of times, but this is the first time we’ve ever seen them go across.

The real highlight for the kids had to be the pandas. Not sure what it is about them, but they loved them. They didn’t even noticed the drizzle.

As we finished, Uncle Michael (Dave’s brother) joined us for the walk. Alexander had a great time with Uncle Michael. Kept asking for him. He’s young, what does he know. ;) When we finished, we headed up the road with Uncle Michael and went to a Greek festival. Though the food was respectable, the real treat was getting to watch two dozen young Greeks do some traditional Greek dancing. Sophia absolutely ate that up. Need to find some flamenco shows in the area to get her hooked on that. Her cousins already have her obsessed with Irish dancing. :)
